Natural Prevention of Headaches and Migraines


Even though there are many types of migraines and headaches, the reasons why they occur are fairly common and are usually easy to prevent. If they are a problem for you, try these natural methods of curing or preventing them.

First of all, it is worth noting that doctors report that as many as 90% of migraines and headaches may be caused by dehydration. What this means is that consuming water at regular intervals can be enough to prevent the majority of problems. You should also try to avoid coffee, soft drinks, and other sources of caffeine, as these will make you more, not less, dehydrated.

The importance of sleep in relieving almost every kind of pain and chronic condition should not be underestimated. Sleep is essential for your general peace of mind, and equally important for preventing headaches and migraines. You should get a minimum of 6 hours sleep per night, with 8 hours being ideal.

Exercise can help prevent headaches and migraines as it lowers stress levels, boosts endorphins, and improves cardiovascular health. Do some aerobic exercise in the morning for 15-30 minutes. You can keep it light and easy, as the purpose is just to get your blood cells, which contain oxygen, flowing more readily around your body, particularly to your brain.

While particular foods can actually relieve headaches and migraines, there are more that cause them. Be particularly aware of foods with a content of sugar, which cause problems for many people. Other foods to watch out for are those which you may be unknowingly allergic to, for example, dairy products and wheat. Try to avoid suspected foods for two weeks to a month and see if there is any difference in the amount of headaches and migraines that you have.

The above suggestions will not prevent or cure all headaches and migraines, but they will have a noticeable, positive effect in the majority of cases.
